I'm a Big Girl Now!!!

"Yes, it's true I'm a big girl now. I have learned to eat rice cereal. I don't even spit it out any more."

Well we have success she has final learned that she likes to eat baby rice cereal. We first tried in August but not much luck. She just would spit it back out. But now she actually eats it and seems to want more. I have started feeding it to her once a day and sometimes twice since Sunday. Lately it seems that she is still hungry after her feeds, so hopefully this will help.

"And I even like to help mom out by trying to grab the spoon and bowl. But I just get it all over my fingers. So far this cereal stuff is pretty cool and I may even try green beans next weekend."

My New Noises

"Well I have learned some really cool new noise and think it really fun to make them all the time. My mommy and daddy thought it was funny at first ,but I don't think they do any more," said McKayla

Yes, McKayla has learned to make these grunting noises every time we are not doing things that she wants. I'm not sure if she pick this up from someone or it just trying something new. Her dad thinks that she is already getting a little attitude and wants to nip it in the butt quick. He hopes that she doesn't continue this when she gets older. But for now it is kind of funny just listening to her make these noises all the time.

"I also like to just keep my lips closed and blow and make a funny noise and lots of bubbles. Then I giggle and get a big smile on my face."

She is really exploring all the new things she can do. From making these new nosies to getting better control of her hands. Its just so amazing how many things she has learned to do over these past five months.

Oh No, I'm Sick!

Well, the past few days McKayla has been very congested at night. We've had to wake her up to plunge her nose every night since Wednesday. She seem to been fine during the day and has not been running a fever at all. It is only at night that she is having a problems breathing and we feel so bad.

So, today (Friday) I called and got her an appointment to see the doctor just to make sure she was not too sick. I thought it might be because of her teething or maybe she has allergies. And sure enough the doctor said she has a little cold. I also asked him about her eyes watering sometime and he said that their eye ducts can get plugged easily and until they get bigger they may water from time to time. And for now he said that it is not allergies and not to worry about them watering. Which I'm glad that so far she doesn't have allergies like her dad does. So he sent us home with some cold medicine since she is close enough to six months he said she could take a small dose.

While we were at the doctors office I got to find out how big her has gotten over the past month. So here's the scoop, she weighs 13 lbs 10 oz. and she is now 24" long. Although she has grown since last month she still is not very high percentage wise. Only 45th percent in weight and 35th in length which is up from last time, which was only 25th percent in length. Anyway maybe there still is a chance that she will take after dad and be taller then 5'.

Controlling Our World

Well, we think McKayla has us all figured out! She is starting to realize that if she cries or fakes a cry she will get our attention. And she seems to think this is the funniest thing. If we happen to be doing something else besides making her laugh, she first just kind of sits and takes it in, but then she starts squawking as if she is going to cry. It’s really kind of funny to hear her, but all you have to do is start talking to her and there comes that huge smile and she giggles away. She seems to be really happy as long as someone is making her laugh!

"I just love to soak up all the attention I can get," says McKayla to her mommy. This is what I think she would say if she could talk right now. It sure would be nice though if babies could just talk from the beginning. We know that’s not possible right now, though lately she’s been making sounds that seem like she is saying “hi”! I have read that babies will try to imitate sounds or words they hear all the time and we sure do say that to her a lot. Maybe hi will be her first word?

Whenever McKayla is in her swing and nobody is paying attention to her she will just sit there and stare at the fish mobile or just stare into the room. But as soon as you walk into the room or just call her name, she lights up and starts giggling or smiles. She really knows how to steal all the attention her way!

We just can't believe how much she has changed over these past five months. It only seems like yesterday we were bringing her home from the hospital. She seemed so little and didn't really fit into any of her newborn clothes and she hated her diaper being changed. Now she has grown into her 3-6 months clothes, but it’s still just as hard to change her diaper! She always tries to get anything that is behind her when you are changing her. This has not made it easy to get her changed quickly. I have to keep her distracted with something that she can put in her mouth since everything has to go there now.

McKayla really seems to be teething lately. She is putting everything into her mouth and always drooling. Who knows, she might sprout a tooth tomorrow? But we do have to say she has been a real trouper and hasn't been super fussy so far. Hope that this will stay true with all her teeth.

Look at me I'm sitting!!

“Even though I had to be helped to get into this position, I managed to stay here long enough for mommy to take my picture. Any day now I will be able to do this all on my own, just you watch and see! Who knows it might even be tomorrow. Nobody really knows but me.”

”I keep amazing everyone with all the cute things I'm learning to do, from rolling over to giggling, and the huge smile that I give everyone.”
